Nicholas Crook Calligraphy

NICHOLAS CROOK CALLIGRAPHY

Nicholas Crook is one of Britain's leading calligraphic artists.

His skill and reputation means that he has the title 'Queen's Scribe'.

He left art college in 1978 with a Diploma Distinction. He was head-hunted by Letraset to work as one of their type designer/artists for a period of 5 years. He then moved on to lecturing and special projects for governments and royal families throughout the world.

He has lectured in Calligraphy and Graphics at Canterbury Adult Education/Tech College since 1979.

Nicholas has exhibited his unique illuminated paintings and his cartoon figures in many galleries around the country and his icons (painted in the traditional manner) are much acclaimed.

His calligraphic work has been presented to Sultans, Princes and Presidents throughout the world and now hangs in many distant countries while his expertise is recognised as far away as America and Australia. He has a studio in Whitstable in Kent where he works on special commissions. He recently completed an original calligraphic project for an American client that illustrated extracts from poetry, philosophy and literature and represents one of the largest illuminated book projects carried out in Britain in recent years. His work has also been extensively printed and is distributed through various outlets including the world famous Jubilee Art and Craft Market at Covent Garden, where Nicholas can be found most weekends demonstrating his skills and where his work can be purchased, from hand-made cards for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other events, through to prints on parchment-style paper and original calligraphic works which are partially printed on acid-free cotton hand-made paper and then embellished by hand with paint and 24-carat gold leaf.
